The 2012 edition of the Canadian Olympic School
Program (COSP) was launched at Williamson Road Junior Public School in
Toronto. London Olympic hopefuls Mary Spencer (Boxing) Martin Reader (Beach
Volleyball) and Tobias Oriwol (Swimming) addressed approximately 600 eager
students in grades Kindergarten to 6, as well as the teaching staff and
parents.
The COSP has operated since 1987, and provides
teachers and students across Canada with Olympic-themed classroom and
school resources.
Various Canadian athletes are featured throughout
the program. Three athletes chosen for this year, share their story about
their passion, determination and journey in becoming Olympians. Jennifer
Abel (Diving), Mary Spencer (Boxing) and Simon Whitfield (Triathlon)
challenge the students to be their best and to adopt and maintain healthy
active lifestyles. The major themes for 2012 include: healthy active
living, leadership and respect.
